Interior Painters for Portland, OR and Vancouver, WA
Beautiful, clean results that bring new life to every room. Walls, ceilings, trim and doors, with the patching and priming done before any colour goes on, and the room put back together at the end of each day.
Interior painting that holds up, not just photographs well
A fresh coat of paint is the cheapest way to change how a house feels. It is also easy to do badly. Roller marks on the ceiling, a wobbly line where the wall meets the trim, nail holes that show through, and a patch that flashes a different sheen every time the light hits it. All of that comes from skipping prep and rushing coats, and it is why we do interiors the slow way.
Tall Pine Painting paints interiors across Portland, Beaverton and the west side of the metro, and across Vancouver, Camas, Ridgefield and Clark County. Licensed in Oregon (CCB #262594) and Washington (TALLPPP742JP), bonded and insured. Se habla español.

What we paint inside
- Walls and ceilings. Living rooms, bedrooms, kitchens, bathrooms, hallways and stairwells, including tall entry walls that need proper staging.
- Trim, baseboards and casings. Caulked at the gaps, sanded smooth and finished in semi-gloss so they wipe clean.
- Doors. Interior doors and frames, brushed or sprayed, with the hardware off rather than taped around.
- Accent walls and colour changes. Going from a dark colour to a light one, or the other way, with the right primer so it covers in two coats instead of four.
- Whole-house interiors. Before a move-in, before a sale, or because every room has been waiting its turn.
The prep is the job
Protect the room
Furniture is pulled to the middle and covered, floors are covered wall to wall, and fixtures and outlet covers come off. Masking is done properly rather than quickly, because a clean line at the end depends on it.
Fix the surface
Nail holes, dents and cracks are filled and sanded flush. Peeling or failing paint, which is common in bathrooms and around windows where the moisture collects, is stripped back to a sound surface rather than painted over. Glossy trim is scuff-sanded so the new coat bonds.
Prime where it matters
Every patch gets primer so it does not flash through the finish. Stains, bare drywall and big colour changes get primed too. Skipping this is the single most common reason a cheap paint job looks cheap six months later.
Two finish coats, proper dry time
Cut in by hand, rolled evenly, and left to dry between coats. The room is put back at the end of the day and you get a walkthrough at the end of the job.
Painting inside during the wet months
From October to April most of the painting in this region happens indoors, and it works well. The one thing to manage is drying: paint cures slower when the air is damp, so we ventilate the rooms we are in, use low-odour products, and leave a little more time between coats than the can says. More on painting through the rain season.

What decides the price of an interior paint job
Every interior estimate is written after we have seen the rooms, because the price is mostly prep, and prep is impossible to guess from a phone call. The things that move it:
- Square footage and ceiling height. Tall entry walls, stairwells and vaulted ceilings need staging and take longer than an eight-foot bedroom.
- The condition of the walls. Nail holes and a few cracks are normal. Water stains, peeling bathroom paint, heavy texture or a wall that was never primed add real time.
- Trim, doors and ceilings. Walls only is the quickest job. Adding ceilings, trim, baseboards and doors roughly doubles the cutting-in, and doors are usually sprayed.
- The colour change. Dark to light or light to dark needs a tinted primer and sometimes a third coat to cover cleanly.
- How full the rooms are. Empty houses before a move-in go fast. Furnished rooms are moved, covered and put back, which is part of the job and part of the price.
The proposal lists each room, the prep steps, the product and sheen, the number of coats and the number of days, so two bids can be compared line by line. Most whole-house interiors qualify for 10% off all qualifying jobs over $2,500, confirmed on the written estimate. Offer terms.
Mention it when you request your free estimate. If it applies to your project, it appears on your written estimate before any work begins. It is not automatic. Offer terms.
Interior painting questions
How long does it take to paint a room?
A standard bedroom with walls and ceiling is usually one day, two if the trim and doors are included or the walls need a lot of patching. A whole-house interior runs a week or more depending on size. The proposal gives you the number of days up front.
Do I need to move everything out?
No. Move small and breakable items, and we handle the rest: furniture pulled to the centre and covered, floors protected, outlet covers off. Rooms are put back at the end of each day so you can live in the house while we work.
Can you paint in winter?
Yes. Interior painting runs all year, and the wet months are when most of it happens here. We ventilate the rooms we are working in and use low-odour paints, so the house stays comfortable with the windows mostly closed.
Which paint do you use?
A quality interior line in the sheen that suits the room: flat or matte on ceilings, eggshell or satin on walls, semi-gloss on trim and doors. If you have a brand or product you prefer, we use it. The proposal names the product.
How much does interior painting cost in Vancouver or Portland?
It depends on the number of rooms, the ceiling height, whether trim, doors and ceilings are included, and how much patching the walls need. We do not quote from a phone call because prep is most of the price and prep has to be seen. The estimate is free, in person, and the proposal breaks the price down room by room. Jobs over $2,500 may qualify for 10% off all qualifying jobs over $2,500.
Do you paint interiors in Portland as well as Vancouver?
Yes. We are interior painters for Portland, Beaverton, Tigard, Tualatin, Sherwood, West Linn, Lake Oswego and Clackamas, licensed in Oregon under CCB #262594, as well as for Vancouver and every town in Clark County under Washington TALLPPP742JP. The bridge is a twenty-minute drive, so Portland estimates are scheduled the same way as Vancouver ones.
