Cabinet Painting and Refinishing in Vancouver, WA and Portland

A high-end factory-quality finish that transforms your cabinets. A new kitchen look without new cabinets, for a fraction of the cost of replacing them.

The same kitchen, before and after

This is a Vancouver kitchen we refinished from dark espresso to white. Same cabinets, same boxes, same doors. Nothing was replaced. The island was kept dark on purpose and everything else was sprayed, and the result reads as a new kitchen because the finish is smooth, even and hard.

Why cabinet paint fails, and why ours does not

Kitchen cabinets are the hardest surface in a house to paint well. They are handled every day, they live next to grease and steam, and factory finishes are slick, so ordinary paint has nothing to grip. A cabinet job that chips at the edges in a year was almost certainly rolled onto an unsanded, undegreased door with a wall paint. We do the opposite at every step.

  1. Doors and drawers off, labelled. Every door, drawer front and hinge is numbered so it goes back exactly where it came from and closes the way it did.
  2. Degreased. Years of cooking leave a film you cannot see. It is cleaned off with a degreaser before anything is sanded, or the paint peels later in sheets.
  3. Sanded and repaired. Every surface is scuff-sanded for grip. Dings and old hardware holes are filled if the hardware is changing.
  4. Bonding primer. A primer made for slick surfaces, so the finish is anchored to the cabinet and not just sitting on it.
  5. Sprayed, not brushed. Doors are sprayed flat in our setup, and the boxes are masked and sprayed in place. That is where the factory-smooth look comes from.
  6. Cabinet-grade enamel, two coats. A hard, washable enamel with full dry time between coats. Then everything is rehung, adjusted and the hardware reset.

Kitchens, bathrooms and built-ins

Kitchens are most of the work, but the same process handles bathroom vanities, laundry room cabinets, built-in bookcases and pantry doors. If you are also repainting the walls, interior painting is scheduled around the cabinet work so the two finish together.

We refinish cabinets across Vancouver, Camas, Ridgefield and Clark County, and across Portland, Beaverton, Tigard, Lake Oswego and the metro. Licensed in both states, and the workmanship guarantee applies.

Cabinet refinishing in Vancouver, WA and cabinet painting in Portland

Cabinet refinishing in Vancouver, WA is where the before and after above came from, and it is the job we are asked about most across Clark County: the oak kitchens of Hazel Dell and Orchards, the espresso kitchens of Felida and Fisher's Landing, and the cherry and maple in Camas. Cabinet painting in Portland is the same process with older kitchens in the mix, from the painted wood of a Laurelhurst bungalow to the 1990s oak in a Beaverton or Tigard subdivision. If you have been searching for cabinet painters near me or cabinet refinishing near me from anywhere in the metro, the sprayed, doors-off process on this page is what you should be comparing every quote against. We hold both state licences, so a Portland or Beaverton kitchen is as easy to book as one in Vancouver.

What decides the price of cabinet refinishing

The number of doors and drawer fronts, the condition of the surfaces, how big the colour change is, and whether the finish is sprayed or brushed. We spray. Islands, pantries and glass-front uppers add pieces, and new hardware or soft-close hinges are listed separately. The estimate is free and in person, the proposal counts every piece and names every step, and most kitchens clear the threshold for 10% off all qualifying jobs over $2,500, confirmed on the written estimate. What moves the cost, in more detail.

Cabinet refinishing questions

Is it better to paint cabinets or replace them?

If the boxes and doors are solid, refinishing gives you a new look for a fraction of replacement cost and without a week of demolition. If the doors are peeling laminate or the boxes are water damaged, we will tell you at the estimate, because paint will not fix that. What refinishing costs and when it makes sense.

How long does cabinet refinishing take?

Most kitchens take four to six working days: a day to remove, label and prep, two to three days of priming and spraying with dry time between coats, and a day to rehang, adjust and reset hardware. You can use the kitchen in the evenings, with the doors off.

Can you change the colour completely?

Yes. Dark to white is the most common request in this area and it is what the photos on this page show. A bonding primer and the right number of coats make the change clean, without old colour showing through at the edges.

Will the finish chip?

Not if the prep was done. Cabinet failures are almost always a prep failure: grease left on the surface, no sanding, or a wall paint used instead of a cabinet-grade enamel. We degrease, sand, bonding prime and spray a hard enamel, and the work carries our workmanship guarantee.

How much does cabinet refinishing cost in Vancouver, WA?

It depends on the number of doors and drawer fronts, their condition, the colour change and the finish. A sprayed, doors-off refinish is a fraction of what replacing the cabinets costs and takes about a week instead of a month of demolition. We quote after seeing the kitchen, the proposal counts every piece, and most kitchens qualify for 10% off all qualifying jobs over $2,500. The full breakdown.
